Western Canada Lottery Corporation

R3C 4J1
Note: To process larger prizes during this period, we may need to connect with you remotely to complete necessary interviews and paperwork.
The process for claiming a prize remotely will be explained to you thoroughly during the prize payout process. We appreciate your patience during this time.
Due to the increased volume of mail-in claims, there may be delays in processing. Please be patient.
Things to remember if you’re claiming a prize by mail:
-
- Make sure you call Player Care at 1-800-665-3313 during normal business hours before sending in any claim worth more than $1,000. Prizes over $1,000 require additional paperwork, which we can provide to you when needed. You can send claims under $1,000 directly, without contacting Player Care in advance.
- Please clearly print your legal name, address and daytime telephone number on the Claim Form on the back of the ticket.
- All risks of sending tickets through the mail remain with the player. You can take a scan or photocopy for your records, but the original ticket is required for claim.
- Depending on the amount won, a copy of your identification may be required.
3. By Mobile
If you aren’t able to claim your prize in person, you can submit your mobile ticket information using this form. Please call Player Care at 1-800-665-3313 for instructions.
Claim Forms
- If you’re claiming a prize by mail, you can print off and fill out the forms and include them with your ticket when you mail it in. This will help to expedite your claim and save prize staff the time to contact you for the information. The claimant information form for your province or territory can be found below.
- If you have any questions about this form – or if you’re claiming a prize with one or more other people – call Player Care at 1-800-665-3313 for guidance.

Lottery Myths
I can improve my chances of winning if I play “smart”.
Your personal strategies, superstitions or “lucky” rituals have no impact on the final outcome of a game. Due to the random nature of the draw, it’s impossible to predict what combination of numbers will be drawn or which Zing (SCRATCH ’N WIN) ticket in the Retailer’s display will be a winner.
Playing the same numbers every week gives me a greater chance of winning the Jackpot.
Each draw is an independent event, and all numbers have the same chance of being selected for every draw. Your chances of winning are no better using the same numbers or using the quick pick method of selecting numbers.
There are “hot numbers” that are drawn more often than others.
Draws are independent events. The frequency that a number has been drawn in the past has no bearing on when it will be drawn in the future.
There are ways to forecast the outcome of lottery draws.
It’s impossible to predict when a number will be drawn – all draws are random. There are no tools or systems that can help you predict winning numbers.
If the odds are 1 in 4 on a Zing (SCRATCH ’N WIN) and you buy four tickets, you should be guaranteed a win.
These are overall odds (1 in 4). So you could buy four tickets and win on all four, or win on none, or wind up somewhere between the two. There’s no connection between tickets.
Remember that lottery games are games of chance, and the outcome is entirely random. So, don’t overspend on lottery tickets, thinking there is some way to “beat the system”. There isn’t. It only takes one ticket to win, and buying hundreds won’t substantially change your odds of winning.

How secure are the WCLC’s Game System and processes?
- WCLC Game System procedures are carried out in strict accordance with established security standards to ensure the integrity of our system and processes.
- Each draw has a sales cut-off time, called “game break”, after which no further tickets can be sold for that particular draw. The game break is verified by WCLC operations staff and confirmed by independent third-party auditors before the drawing of winning numbers is allowed to proceed.
- Independent third-party auditors play a significant role during every draw and act as the public’s eyes and ears in the draw process.
- Once sales for the current draw are closed at game break, all tickets registered in the central Game System for that draw are copied to a file and that file is transferred to an Independent Control System – a system separate from the game system and is under the exclusive control of the auditors. As an additional control, the auditors receive a separate disc containing the ticket information that was loaded onto the Independent Control System.
- Immediately after the draw has been completed, the winning numbers that were drawn are entered in both the Game System and Independent Control System to identify the winners in each prize category for that particular draw.
- The results from both systems are then compared to ensure that the results are identical. The auditors verify that the results are identical.
- Several layers of security are in place to monitor Game System activity at all times – including during draw procedures.
How do the draws work?
All draws for national and regional games occur using Random Number Generator (RNG) software on stand-alone computerized draw machines. RNG software streamlines the draws while maintaining security, reliability, speed and the ability to audit results.
- The RNG system uses a proprietary algorithm to generate random numbers. It is independently tested and certified for both its effectiveness in generating random results and its integrity.
- Before each draw, an integrity check is performed on the system to ensure that no changes have been made that could affect the random outcome of the draw.
- All draws are witnessed by external auditors. Strict controls and security measures are in place for every draw.
- Draw machines are located in a secure location that is monitored by video surveillance 24 hours a day.
- Have you been traveling within Canada?
- Have you purchased tickets on your holidays?
- Now what? How will you check your tickets or claim any prizes won?
Tickets Purchased in the Prairies and Territories
Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) is responsible for lottery games in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon. If you buy a ticket from WCLC and win while still visiting the region, you can claim prizes up to $1,000 at any participating retailer in WCLC’s region. See Claiming a Prize for information on how to claim prizes over $1,000 and merchandise prizes.
Tickets Purchased in Other Parts of Canada
Canada consists of five separate lottery jurisdictions and each region maintains their own Central Computer System. That means tickets purchased within one lottery region cannot be checked or paid in another lottery jurisdiction. This includes DAILY GRAND, LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49 tickets, as well as all ZING (SCRATCH ‘N WIN) tickets.
For winning numbers or other information on a ticket from another region, you can visit the other four lottery jurisdictions’ websites:
British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC)
Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG)
If you are visiting from another country, make sure to claim any prizes before you leave.
If you are heading out for a vacation and you don’t want your inbox to fill up with emails, remember to edit your MVP Service profile to stop receiving notifications until your return. Simply login and uncheck the alert boxes. When you are back, log back into your account and update the alerts you wish to start receiving again!
- If you’ve received an email, a letter or phone call that claims to be from Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) or any other organization, and it states that your name or email address was selected and you’ve won a lottery prize and asks you to pay to receive your prize, please disregard it.
- There are several scams going on every day that attempt to use the names and trademarks of legitimate organizations – including WCLC – to deceive unsuspecting victims. These emails, letters or phone calls will often indicate that you can claim a prize if you send money to cover “taxes” or “service charges”.
- WCLC sells lottery tickets through authorized lottery retailers, and sells Subscriptions for extended periods through our Play By Subscription service. Residents of Manitoba can also purchase LOTTO 6/49, LOTTO MAX, WESTERN MAX, WESTERN 649 and EXTRA via PlayNow.com. But you’ll never be asked to pay money to claim a legitimate lottery prize.
- Please note: Subscription and PlayNow.com purchasers may receive notifications of wins (by telephone or mail for large wins on a Subscription, or by email for wins associated with PlayNow.com). You must already be registered with either Subscription or PlayNow to win.
- If you are a Manitoba PlayNow.com player, you can log in to your PlayNow account or contact PlayNow Customer Support to verify the win. If you’re a Subscriber, you can call WCLC Subscription Services at 1-800-665-3313.
Here are some tips to help you identify Lottery Scams. It’s a scam if…
- You didn’t purchase a ticket or enter a contest in the Prairie Provinces and Territories.
- If you didn’t purchase a ticket or enter a contest within our region, you would not be entitled to a prize.
- You can only win a prize on our games if you’ve purchased a ticket at a lottery retailer, by Subscription, or in Manitoba at PlayNow.com. WCLC does not sell our products or solicit sales outside of our jurisdiction of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon, nor do we authorize anyone to do so on our behalf.
- You are informed that you’ve won a lottery prize from another country or province, even though you haven’t purchased a ticket.
- We don’t award prizes by drawing names or email addresses from a list. No legitimate lottery operates in this way.
- You are asked to pay taxes or fees to claim a prize.
- Do not, under any circumstances, send money or personal or financial information to someone making such a request of you.
- Lottery prizes in Canada are not taxable, and no taxes or fees of any kind have to be paid to Canadian authorities on legitimate lottery winnings in Canada.
- You are provided with a cheque from a third-party organization to assist with paying taxes or fees.
- No payment or fees are required to claim lottery prizes in Canada.
- Do not cash such cheques as they are likely forgeries and will bounce. If you choose to attempt to cash the cheque, exercise extreme caution and confirm with your bank that there will be no financial or legal repercussions or costs if it doesn’t clear.
- You are instructed to not tell anyone about your “win” or else you will be unable to claim your prize.
- If you had won a real lottery prize, sharing the news about your win with family, friends and others would not disqualify you from being entitled to a prize.
What should I do if I am contacted by someone who indicates I’ve won a lottery prize from WCLC even though I haven’t purchased a ticket?
Simply disregard the request – throw the letter away, delete the email or hang up the telephone. If you want to check with WCLC to confirm if it was from us, you can contact us by:

What if I’ve already sent money to a fraudulent lottery organization?
If you have sent money or would like to speak to someone regarding a solicitation, we advise you to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. They can be reached at 1-888-495-8501 (within Canada and the United States) or (705) 495-8501 (overseas). Their phone lines can be busy; however, you can leave a message, and they will return your call. You may also wish to contact your local authorities.
