More than 40 years ago, Karen Fradette first joined the Sask Lotteries team and since has become a vital part of the organization. In the four decades that Fradette has been a part of Sask Lotteries, she has helped grow the retailer network to over 1,000 members and increased the sales of the lottery products that benefit more than 12,000 sport, culture and recreation groups in communities across the province.
In 1982, Fradette took on a temporary role with the organization as a posting clerk and returned the following two summer terms as she pursued her bachelor’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan.
During her second summer term, Fradette was one of six LOTTO 6/49 ambassadors. The group travelled around the province, introducing newly-released lottery games to various towns and communities.
Fradette was enthused to be a part of the role and enjoyed introducing LOTTO 6/49, the first game offered on a lottery terminal with a progressive jackpot, across Canada.
After her final summer term in 1984, Fradette was brought on full time in the fall as a Sales & Marketing Representative, beginning what would become a lifelong career. Fradette remained in that position until 1995 when she transitioned to Lottery Coordinator, overseeing new Sask Lotteries representatives.
Eleven years later, in 2006, Fradette took on the Lottery Supervisor role. She held that position until 2017, when she took her final step in the organization and became Lotteries Manager.
“I am very grateful to have been part of the unique lottery fundraiser in our province and see firsthand, the impact that our lottery sales have in sport, culture and recreation,” shared Fradette when asked about her time with Sask Lotteries.
Fradette’s time with Sask Lotteries was substantial, impacting numerous processes and policies, as well as the lives of many of her colleagues. Her legacy with the organization will continue to be felt long after her final day at the office.
“Sask Lotteries has been incredibly fortunate to benefit from having Karen as a part of our team for more than four decades,” said Sask Sport CEO Kevin Gilroy. “Her influence will continue to be felt in the years to come as she leaves behind a legacy of mentorship and her mark on the direction of our organization.”
“On behalf of everyone at Sask Sport, I would like to thank Karen for her years of service and dedication and wish her all the best in her retirement.”
